Fifth-year pharmacy students take practical pharmacy classes in the Training Pharmacy.
Under the expert guidance of assistants from the Department of Applied Pharmacy, they learn the Kamsoft pharmacy programme. Applying current pharmaceutical legislation, they fill prescriptions for finished and prescription drugs and learn about the principles of filling orders for medical devices. For every pharmacist, the patient is the most important thing, so a strong emphasis is placed on learning patient contact skills, which are essential to protect the patient's health and public health.

Lecturers from the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Care teach classes in the Training Pharmacy as part of the pharmaceutical care subject, where students learn how to create individual care management plans using IT tools. They learn how goals are set in pharmaceutical care, how they are reviewed and through which methods they are implemented. Teachers demonstrate, using case studies, how to create a care plan and teach classes on detecting medication problems. Pharmacotherapy classes in pharmacy include classes on finding scientific information about a drug.

Medical analytics students gain practical skills in one of the most modern and largest clinical diagnostic laboratories in Poland, the Central Laboratory of the Central Clinical Hospital of the University Clinical Centre of our university.
Future diagnosticians become acquainted with the medical diagnostic laboratory already during the second year of their studies, thanks to conducting part of the exercises in the subjects: general analytics, laboratory haematology or laboratory diagnostics on the basis of the hospital base. The Department also conducts scientific internships, during which students learn to operate the diagnostic equipment with which the Central Laboratory is equipped, and Practical Training, during which students actively participate in the provision of health services.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine, together with the Central Laboratory of the UCK WUM, is the leading centre for postgraduate training of Laboratory Diagnosticians, organising courses and internships as part of the specialisation training programme in Laboratory Medical Diagnostics.

Our Faculty has a WF Employers' Council, which is a group of representatives from industry, pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions and pharmacy managers. It is a key element in building relations between the Faculty and the social, institutional and economic environment in which the Faculty of Pharmacy operates and for which it educates its graduates.

Cooperation with the business environment has been developing in several areas, including the organisation and financing of prizes for the winners of Master's Thesis Competitions (e.g. in the form of internships, trips to training courses or scientific conventions), providing opinions on educational programmes, and providing our students with internships and placements in pharmacies, industry (e.g. Gedeon Richter Polska, Pol. Gedeon Richter Polska, Polpharma), pharmaceutical companies conducting clinical trials, analytical laboratories of scientific and research institutes, training of practical skills in diagnostic laboratories (e.g. Synevo group, ALAB laboratories, Roche Diagnostics) or organisation of students' visits to external stakeholders.

Since 2013, we have been carrying out nearly 50 research and teaching projects worth more than PLN 47 million, and this number is still growing. We study the effects of medicinal substances and search for new ones. We develop innovative technologies and drug forms. Our current research activities include:

  • the analysis of nitrogen-organic compounds in pharmaceutical and industrial samples, with particular emphasis on nitrosamines
  • the effect of microplastics on toxicity and environmental fate of selected antidepressant drugs
  • the development and validation of a new form of therapy for inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the colon based on gold III complexes
  • interactions of the human microbiota with plant extracts traditionally used in therapy

More information on research projects conducted by the department is available here
