2 June 2022 The Rector of the WUM, Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, MD, PhD, together with the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Joanna Kolmas, PhD, presented the Diploma of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Warsaw Medical University to Prof. Zdzisław Machoń, an outstanding Polish pharmacist and chemist.

The ceremony took place within the walls of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Piastów Śląskich Medical University in Wrocław during an extraordinary session of the university's Senate. The ceremony was honoured by the Medici Cantantes academic choir of the Wrocław Medical University under the direction of Magdalena Lipska, which performed, in accordance with the tradition of the University, the piece 'A w tej naszej Dolinie' recommended by Professor Machoń. 
Prof. Zdzisław Machoń, a pharmacist and chemist, is one of the few Polish developers of original synthetic drugs. He developed the synthesis and introduced Vratizolin, an antiviral drug, into medicine. He is the author of 51 patents and patent applications and numerous research works. In her laudation, the promoter of the honorary doctorate, Professor Jadwiga Turło, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biotechnology at WUM, presented not only the professor's achievements for Polish pharmacy, and particularly medicinal chemistry, but also his contribution to the Faculty of Pharmacy at WUM. For more than 30 years, he cooperated with our Faculty and University in the field of denotrivir manufacturing technology, synthesis of new derivatives, and clinical research. He was the initiator of the establishment of the Professor Stanisław Biniecki Medal for research workers for special achievements in the field of pharmacy and medicinal chemistry.
